Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Chairs Emergency Meeting with Participation of Several Ministers, Heads of Security Agencies, and Deputy Special Representative of UN Secretary General

On Thursday 15 March 2025, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein chaired an emergency meeting with the participation of the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Minister of Immigration and Displacement, Minister of Sports and Youth, Minister of Education, National Security Advisor, heads of security agencies, Undersecretaries of several service ministries and relevant national authorities, and the Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General.

The meeting discussed the efforts made by the governmental authorities and United Nations agencies to rehabilitate, reintegrate, and resettle Iraqis returning from Al Hol camp in northeastern Syria. As well the meeting dealt with the measures taken by Iraqi ministries, security agencies, and United Nations agencies to mitigate the negative effects of the U.S. administration’s decision to freeze its financial assistance to the United Nations agencies, and the strategic dimensions of such a decision on Iraq’s security and stability. 

Additionally the attendees discussed the security and service measures taken by the service ministries and security authorities to continue the momentum of rehabilitation for returnees from Al Hol camp and integrate them into their original communities. 

They also discussed the delivery of food security, education, healthcare, and social services at Al Amal Center, in coordination with several specialized United Nations agencies.
