Iraq’s Ambassador in Bratislava Discusses Strengthening Cooperation and Opening a Slovak Embassy in Baghdad with Slovak Foreign Ministry State Secretary

Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to Bratislava Mr. Bakr Fattah Hussein, met with State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Mr. Rastislav Chovanec, at the Ministry’s headquarters to discuss means of strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.

Ambassador Hussein emphasized Iraq’s political and economic significant improvement despite the tensions in the region. As well he emphasized the importance of reopening the Slovak Embassy in Baghdad to expand political and economic cooperation between the two countries.

On his part, Mr. Chovanec highlighted the promising opportunities and broad areas of cooperation between Iraq and Slovakia, recalling the strong economic relations that linked Iraq with the former Czechoslovakia. In addition, he explained that Slovak companies enjoy a good reputation in various fields, including water management and communications, emphasizing that Iraq could benefit from this expertise.

Additionally, State Secretary Chovanec expressed his appreciation for Iraq’s mutual support for his country’s candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the Security Council for the 2028-2029 term, stressing the importance of continued coordination and cooperation between the two countries in international forums.
