Undersecretary for Bilateral Relations Receives Swedish Chargé d’Affaires

The Undersecretary for Bilateral Relations Ambassador Mohammed Hussein Bahr Aluloom, received the Swedish Chargé d’Affaires, Ambassador Mr. Jorgen Lindstrom, on Tuesday 18 February 2025, in Baghdad.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed a number of issues of common concern, as Undersecretary Bahr Aluloom affirmed the importance of continuing cooperation in fighting against hate speech and extremism, given its serious repercussions on the social cohesion and political relations, he also commended the role played by the Swedish judiciary in countering extremism and promoting the values of peaceful coexistence.
In the context of the discussion on the situation in Iraq, the Undersecretary referred to the stability and the economic developments Iraq is witnessing, as well he highlighted the country’s growing regional role through initiatives of mediation and major projects, such as the “Development Road”. Additionally, Undersecretary Bahr Aluloom affirmed Iraq’s full readiness to host the 2025 Arab Summit, in addition to its presidency of the G77 and China, which reflects its active presence in international issues.
The Undersecretary reiterated Iraq’s firm stance on regional and international issues, stressing Iraq’s commitment to supporting Syria’s stability and warning against the escalating threat of Da’esh terrorist organization. Regarding the Palestinian issue, he stressed Iraq’s categorical rejection of any attempts to displace Palestinians, considering this a violation of international law and human rights.
On his part, the Swedish Chargé d’Affaires commended the positive role played by the Iraqi community in Sweden, pointing to their significant contributions to enriching Swedish culture and promoting economic and social development, in addition to he appreciated Iraq’s efforts in supporting regional stability, commending the progress it is making on various levels.
