Undersecretary for Bilateral Relations Participates in Iraqi-British Business Council Conference in Baghdad

Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry for Bilateral Relations Mr. Mohammed Hussein Bahr Aluloom, participated in the Iraqi-British Business Council Conference, which was held in Baghdad on 17 February 2025, with the attendance of Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil Mr. Hayan Abdul Ghani, and Minister of Communications Ms. Hiyam Al-Yasiri, along with a group of representatives of Iraqi and British companies.
In his speech during the conference, the Undersecretary affirmed the importance of strengthening the economic partnership between Iraq and the United Kingdom, commending the key role played by the Iraqi-British Business Council and its President, Baroness Emma Nicholson, in supporting and developing bilateral relations. As well Undersecretary Bahr Aluloom pointed out that holding the conference in Baghdad for the first time, after it was previously held outside Iraq or in London, is a positive indicator of the improvement of the security situation in Iraq, emphasizing that this development is in line with the United Kingdom’s decision to remove Iraq from its red list of travel warnings, which reflects increasing confidence in security stability and opens new horizons for promising economic opportunities.
Additionally, Undersecretary Bahr Aluloom highlighted the growth of trade exchange between Iraq and the United Kingdom, referring to the recent visit of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani to London, which reinforced the two countries’ commitment to expanding the strategic partnership, adding that this visit resulted in the signing of a strategic agreement worth 12.3 billion pound sterling, which reflects the two countries’ desire to enhance cooperation in the fields of economy, energy, and infrastructure.
At the end of his speech, the Undersecretary expressed Iraq’s aspiration to enhance cooperation in vital sectors, such as infrastructure, renewable energy, education, and technology, stressing that these partnerships will contribute to supporting the process of development and prosperity in Iraq, as well he thanked and appreciated all participants, expressing his hope that this conference will contribute to building new partnerships and expanding the horizons of economic cooperation between the two countries.
