Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Holds a Phone Call with Syrian Foreign Minister

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein held a phone call with the Syrian Foreign Minister in the new administration Mr. Asaad Hassan Al Shibani, on 30 December 2024. Minister Hussein congratulated Minister Al Shibani on assuming his duties as Syria’s Foreign Minister, and commended his attention to the Iraqi diplomatic mission in Damascus. As well he expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the Syrian side in protecting the mission, stressing Iraq’s keenness to return all members of the mission to Damascus to continue their work, on his part Minister Al Shibani affirmed his interest in the Iraqi Embassy in Damascus.

During the call, the two ministers discussed issues of common concern and affirmed that the stability and security of the two countries are interconnected, in addition the Syrain Foreign Minister indicated that the security and safety of Iraq constitute an integral part of the security and safety of Syria.

Additionally, Minister Hussein touched on the recent moves of Da’esh members on the common border, underlining the importance of enhancing cooperation and coordination to confront these threats.

Minister Al Shibani confirmed the Syrian side’s readiness to fully coordinate with Iraq to confront these groups and prevent them from threatening the security of the two countries.

At the end of the call, Minister Hussein commended the productive discussions between the head of the Iraqi National Intelligence Service Mr. Hamid Al Shatri, with the Syrian side during his recent visit to Damascus.
