Iraqi Chargé d’Affaires in Tripoli Meets Libyan Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development
The Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq to the State of Libya Dr. Ahmed Al-Sahaf, met with the Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development Ms. Mabrouka Toghy Othman.
During the meeting they discussed joint cultural cooperation between the Republic of Iraq and the State of Libya, as well they stressed the importance of activating tourism between both countries, and the possibility of signing a comprehensive memorandum of understanding between the two sides.
The Chargé d’Affaires, indicated the decision of the Council of Arab Culture Ministers which was held on December 7 and selected Baghdad as the capital of Arab culture for the year 2025, affirming that the selection of Baghdad as the capital of Arab tourism for the year 2025, came in accordance with the standards of the Arab Tourism Organization, for Iraq’s credit in its policies, infrastructure and important sites, indicating Baghdad’s entitlement to this event and the great efforts made by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities, in cooperation with the Foreign Ministry to activate cultural diplomacy and build on sources of soft power and according to the priorities of the government program of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani, all of which resulted in accomplishing this achievement.
As well the two sides discussed the possibility of signing a memorandum of understanding in the cultural field and exchanging expertise. They also discussed cultural and production industries in the areas of arts and theater and hosting experts from Iraq, in addition to they underlined the importance of cooperation between research and music centers of the Ministries of Culture in the two countries, and the opening of cultural centers to support cultural diversity, development, training and scholarships for cultural studies.
On her part, Minister Othman confirmed her willingness to sign memorandums of understanding between the two countries, indicating her readiness to host the Iraqi-Libyan Cultural Week in Tripoli with the participation of a number of those concerned in this aspect from professors, artistic groups, poets, writers and heritage experts.
