Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Holds a Phone Call with British Minister of State for Middle East and North Africa

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein held a phone call with the British Minister of State for Middle East and North Africa Mr. Hamish Falconer on 19 December 2024. 

The Minister of State expressed his happiness with the outcome of the Aqaba meetings which the UK participated in, as well he underlined the importance of continuing these meetings within the same framework to follow the situation in Syria and monitor developments there. In addition Mr. Falconer expressed his country’s concern regarding the possibility of an armed clash between some armed groups and the Syrian Democratic Forces, adding that the situation in Syria cannot afford further internal fighting.

On his part Minister Fuad Hussein noted that Da’esh terrorist organization is reorganizing its groups as it seized quantities of weapons due to the collapse of the Syrian army and its abandonment of weapon depots, which allowed it to expand its control over additional areas.

Additionally Minister Hussein warned of the danger of Da’esh members escaping from prisons, and the deterioration of the situation in Al-Hawl camp and its impact on security in Syria and Iraq. 

The Minister stressed the need to build the Syrian political process on the basis of the participation of representatives of all components, emphasizing the importance of providing sustainable international aid to the Syrian people.
