Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Discusses Bilateral Relations with Russia’s Energy Minister

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein received Russian Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilev, in Baghdad on 26 November 2024. 

During the meeting the two sides highlighted the importance of the bilateral relations between Iraq and Russia and their pivotal role at the current stage, stressing on the need to activate the Iraqi-Russian Joint Committee and expedite the convening of its meetings to discuss issues of common concern. 

The meeting also addressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between Iraqi and Russian institutions and working to remove obstacles facing this cooperation. As well the level of trade exchange between the two countries was reviewed, as they indicated the noticeable increase in the balance of trade exchange which reflects the development of economic relations between both countries. 

Minister Hussein commended the progress of mutual relations between the two countries, stressing the need to strengthen these relations and raise them to higher levels. The Minister indicated that an important meeting will be held in Baghdad during the coming period to deepen cooperation between the two sides.

The meeting also touched on areas of cooperation in promoting trade, developing cooperation in the oil sector, the electronic field, cyber security, and automating government work.
