Meetings of 8th Ambassadors Conference Convenes in Baghdad Under the Slogan “Towards Effective Diplomacy in a Changing World”

The 8th Ambassadors Conference started on 25 November 2024, in Baghdad under the slogan “Towards Effective Diplomacy with Multiple Tracks in a Changing World”. 

The first day of the conference witnessed five discussion sessions attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein.

The first session was devoted to discuss bilateral relations and was moderated by the Ministry’s Undersecretary Mr. Muhammad Hussein Bahr Aloolum, in which the outcomes and recommendations of the previous conference was reviewed, As well the head of Europe Department Ambassador Bakr Al Jaff reviewed the work of his department and the most prominent challenges it faces, and the session witnessed interventions from the relevant departments.

The second session dealt with political developments and regional relations as the head of the Neighboring Countries Department Mr. Muhammad Redha Al Hussaini reviewed through a working paper the most prominent political developments, while Iraq’s ambassadors in neighboring countries presented their vision for developing relations. As well the the head of Arab Department Osama Mahdi Ghanem provided an explanation of the department’s tasks and divisions, and the heads of Arab missions discussed the most significant common issues between Iraq and the Arab countries.

The third session on bilateral relations with Africa, America, Asia and Australia addressed bilateral relations between Iraq and the relevant countries, in which the head of the Africa Department Dr. Ghazi Kettab, the head of the America Department Mr. Diari Ahmed and the head of the Asia and Australia Department Dr. Hamid Al Jubouri, made presentations on the relations and ways to develop them.

The fourth session was devoted to discuss multilateral and legal affairs, and was moderated by the Undersecretary for Multilateral and Legal Affairs Mr. Omer Al Barzanji, the session included working papers presented by the head of Human Rights Department Ambassador Abdul Karim Tuma, the head of the International Organizations and Conferences Department Dr. Fadhel Alrahim, and the head of Economic Department Dr. Hussein Younis, in addition to the Legal Department.

The fifth session on consular affairs hosted the Director General of Civil Status Major General Nashat Al Khafaji, who reviewed the successes of cooperation between the Foreign and Interior Ministries and indicated the opening of 20 electronic passport and national card offices in the embassies with imminent plans to expand these offices to include all diplomatic missions. 

The five sessions witnessed interventions and comments by Minister Fuad Hussein which enriched the discussions and contributed to directing effective recommendations for the conference’s work.
