Foreign Ministry Celebrates 100 Years of Iraqi Diplomacy

The three presidencies represented by President of the Republic of Iraq Dr. Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, the Prime Minister Mr. Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani, and the Speaker of the Council of Representatives Mr. Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani, participated on 24 November 2024, in the ceremony held by the Foreign Ministry in the Grand Celebrations Square in Baghdad, to celebrate a centenary on the founding of Iraqi diplomacy, the ceremony was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein, a number of ministers, and members of the Council of Representatives, in addition to the Arab and foreign diplomatic staff accredited in Iraq.

In his speech during the ceremony President Rashid emphasized the importance of strengthening Iraq’s foreign policy to keep pace with regional and international developments, calling on the Foreign  Ministry and Iraqi embassies abroad to present a positive image that reflects the true reality of the country, affirming the need to achieve security and peace in the region, and to stop crimes against the Palestinian and Lebanese people, embodying Iraq’s commitment to the principles of humanity and peace.

On his part, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani congratulated the Foreign Ministry on its 100th anniversary, praising its pioneering role since its establishment in 1924. Additionally, he stressed the government’s keenness to prepare a new generation of young diplomats to enhance Iraq’s position at regional and international levels, He also reviewed the most prominent achievements of the ministry, including the Development Road project and its effective role in organizing relations with major countries and ending the mission of the Global Coalition, adding  “Since the beginning of our work, we have paid great attention to foreign affairs based on Iraq’s higher national interests and constitutional constants, we established the (productive diplomacy) principle to be a pillar of our foreign work.” He stressed that the standard of Iraq’s foreign relations is based on partnership, equality and management of mutual interests.

The Speaker of the Council of Representatives Mr. Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani underlined the parliament’s full support for the Foreign Ministry efforts, pointing out the importance of integrating work between the legislative and executive authorities to protect Iraq’s sovereignty and ensure the independence of its decisions.

On his part Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein reviewed the Ministry’s most prominent achievements which included developing bilateral relations with major countries and implementing the government program with a 100% completion rate, as well as Minister Hussein indicated to the restoring of hundreds of smuggled artifacts, and announced the convening of the “Ambassadors Conference” on Monday for two days, to discuss the priorities of diplomatic work for the next stage.
