Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Chairs Thirty Fifth Meeting of Ministerial Council for Economy of 2024
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein chaired the 35th session of the Ministerial Council for Economy of 2024, on 18 November 2024, which was held at the Council’s headquarters, with the attendance of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Planning, the Ministers of Agriculture, Industry, Labor and Social Affairs, the Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers, the Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq, the Chairman of the Securities Commission, and the Prime Minister’s Advisor for Legal Affairs.
During the meeting the Council hosted the Minister of Water Resources and the Ministry’s Technical Undersecretary to discuss the issue of Makhoul Dam, as the Council listened to the opinion of the concerned ministry regarding the economic viability of establishing the dam, in addition to technical reports, studies, opinions of experts and specialized committees related to geological and soil studies and the potential risks of establishing the dam in that area.
After the discussion the Council decided to remove the project from the investment budget, while stressing the need to urge the Ministry of Water Resources to seek the assistance of a specialized global consultant to study the water situation in Iraq including the dams and dikes.
The Council also decided to extend the work of the Committee of Reviewing the Pricing of Customs Materials until its work is completed.
In the context of supporting national products, the Council decided that the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, after presenting the issue to the Council of Ministers, would issue a circular to the relevant authorities to adopt transparency in announcing tenders.
The Council approved the request of the Ministry of Industry to delay the export of gravel, crushed boulder and crushed gravel from Basra, in addition to approving the proposal of the Ministry of Agriculture regarding the inclusion of locally produced table eggs in the agricultural calendar according to the abundance of production.
The Council also approved increasing the reserve percentage to establish 30 schools with 18 classrooms in Al Anbar governorate in (Al-Qaim, Haditha, Fallujah, Ramadi, Hit, and Al-Karma) areas.
