Dean of Foreign Service Institute Meets Egypt’s Ambassador to Iraq
The Dean of the Foreign Service Institute, Ambassador Dr. Bassim Hatab Al Tuma, met with the Egyptian Ambassador in Baghdad Mr. Ahmed Samir, on 29 October 2024, at the headquarters of the Foreign Service Institute.
During the meeting Ambassador Al Tuma stressed the strength of bilateral relations between the two countries and the importance of enhancing them, pointing to the common cultural, civilizational, religious and social commonalities that bind the two friendly peoples. Affirming that there is a need to enhance understandings and joint work to face regional challenges, and for concerted efforts to stop the Israeli aggression on Palestine and Lebanon.
Additionally, Ambassador Al Tuma touched on the importance of strengthening cooperation between the Foreign Service Institute and the Institute of Diplomatic Studies at the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, through implementing the memorandum of understanding signed between the two parties on 13 June 2024.
On his part, Ambassador Ahmed Samir highlighted the deep-rooted bilateral relations between the two countries at various levels, indicating that Egypt calls for calm and rejects expanding the scope of conflict in the region, considering the Israeli war on Lebanon to be a blatant violation of its sovereignty.
Ambassador Samir underlined that Iraq represents a promising investment environment, and that the volume of trade exchange between the two countries should rise to higher levels.
At the end of the meeting, the Egyptian Ambassador confirmed his country’s readiness to host Iraqi diplomats, including the trainees of the habilitating diplomatic training program No 28, to participate in the training courses organized by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.
