Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Chairs 32nd Meeting of Ministerial Council for Economy

On 28 October 2024, Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister, and Chairman of the Ministerial Council for Economy Mr. Fuad Hussein chaired the 32nd meeting of the Ministerial Council for the Economy, which was held at the Council’s headquarters. The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Planning, the Ministers of Finance, Trade, Agriculture, Industry, Labor and Social Affairs, the Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq, the Undersecretary of Oil Ministry, and the Prime Minister’s Advisors for Economy and Legal Affairs. 

The Council discussed the topics on its agenda and took the necessary decisions regarding them. 

The Council hosted the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Planning and the Director General of the International Cooperation Department, in addition to members of the Steering Committee of Iraq Reform, Recovery and Reconstruction Fund, and listened to their recommendations on the selected projects which were divided into three main axes: – Supporting the education strategy, Diversification and economic reform, including the “Development Road” in the transportation sector, Climate change and its relationship with the relevant ministries.

The Council approved the recommendations of the Steering Committee, as well the Council decided to assign the Ministry of Agriculture to conduct an on-site inspection and examination of the confiscated wheat which contains spoiled grains, to determine its suitability and uses. 

Additionally, the Council agreed to increase the percentage of support for the selling prices of transplanters used in growing rice, which is a modern agricultural method, to be reduced by 75% instead of 50%. The Council hosted a delegation from the Kurdistan Region, which included the Advisor to the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources, the Director General of Planning and Follow-up, and the Director General of Planning at the Ministry of Strategic Planning in the region, to discuss the agricultural plan for the winter season 2024-2025.

Furthermore, the Council listened to a presentation by the Minister of Agriculture and Directors General, on the concepts and reports related to the size of agricultural lands and the expected quantities of strategic crop production, based on global reports on weather maps and rainfall amounts. The Council approved the recommendations of the minutes of the meeting of the Coordination Committee, between the Ministries of Industry and Agriculture, regarding the preparation of modern pivot irrigation systems.
