Undersecretary for Bilateral Relations Receives New Head of UNAMI to Discuss Procedures for Gradually Ending the Mission’s Mandate
The Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry for Bilateral Relations, Ambassador Mohammed Hussein Bahr Aloolum, received on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, the Special Representative for Iraq and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq, Ambassador Mohamed Al Hassan.
The Undersecretary welcomed Ambassador Al Hassan, congratulating him on assuming the new position, and expressing the Ministry’s readiness to provide the necessary support to facilitate his tasks. He also expressed his thanks for the efforts made by UNAMI in supporting Iraq over the past years, wishing Ambassador Al Hassan success in performing his new mission, which represents a historic turning point in light of the expected transformation of the mission.
During the meeting, they discussed ways to enhance cooperation and coordination with the Iraqi authorities, regarding the procedures related to gradually ending UNAMI’s mandate, while affirming Iraq’s readiness to provide the required facilities in this context.
On his part, Ambassador Al Hassan expressed his gratitude for the warm reception, affirming his determination to make every effort to ensure a safe and gradual transition for the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq.
