Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Receives New Head of UNAMI to Discuss Enhancing Cooperation with United Nations

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein received Special Representative for Iraq and the new Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) Mr. Mohamed Al Hassan, on Monday, October 14, 2024. 

Minister Fuad Hussein welcomed Mr. Al Hassan, and expressed Iraq’s readiness to provide all forms of support to facilitate his work. 

During the meeting they discussed the nature of the relationship between Iraq and the organization, as well they appreciated the efforts made by UNAMI in supporting Iraq over the past years. Additionally, Minister Hussein stressed the importance of maintaining the historical relation between Iraq and the United Nations and its agencies working in the country.

The two sides discussed enhancing cooperation and coordination with the Iraqi authorities, regarding the procedures for gradually ending the mandate of UNAMI, underlining Iraq’s readiness to provide the necessary facilities in this regard

On his part Mr. Al Hassan extended his thanks for the warm reception, indicating his determination to make every effort to facilitate the safe and gradual transition of UNAMI to assist Iraq.
