Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Participates in Group of Friends of Mediation Ministerial Meeting
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein participated in the the ministerial meeting of the Group of Friends of Mediation, on the sidelines of the high-level week of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, held on September 26, 2024.
In his speech during the meeting Minister Hussein affirmed that the increasing conflicts and disputes require us to adopt effective multilateral diplomacy to activate mediation efforts, and replace the language of wars and violence with the language of dialogue and peace, while seriously striving to achieve regional and global stability. The Minister called on the countries of the Group of Friends of Mediation to work closely with the parties to the conflict and the countries that offer assistance in facilitating dialogues with the aim of ending the conflict in the Middle East and addressing its elements based on an approach that benefits all parties.
As well as the Minister underlined the need to activate preventive diplomacy options and address the roots of the conflict before it occurs, while adhering to the principles of international law, chief among them the non-interference in the internal affairs of countries and respecting their sovereignty. Additionally in his speech the Minister commended the initiative of Mr. António Guterres Secretary-General of the United Nations, and his dedication to raising awareness of the importance of peacebuilding, and his call to support the Peacebuilding Fund.
