Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Participates in Group of Friends of Victims of Terrorism Meeting
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein participated in the meeting of the Group of Friends of Victims of Terrorism, which was held on September 25, 2024, on the sidelines of the high-level week of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
In his speech during the meeting, Minister Hussein affirmed that Iraq pays a great attention to supporting victims of terrorism financially and morally, especially since it is one of the countries that has suffered the most from terrorist acts and their consequences. The Minister stressed the Iraqi government’s commitment to genuine cooperation with the international community to combat terrorism and eliminate it once and for all, and to prevent any entity or approach that adopts violence, terrorism, extremism and hate speech. He also stressed that Iraqi territory will not be allowed to be used as a base for terrorist organizations’ activities, which will contribute to enhance international security and stability.
The Minister commended the efforts of the UNOCT in coordinating international efforts, and praised the efforts of member sattes governments of the Group of Friends of Victims of Terrorism, in developing national strategies that meet the health and social needs of victims and their families, and guarantee their basic and human rights. He also announced that Iraq will host the Group’s conference in 2026.
