Iraq and UNAMI Discuss Implementation Mechanisms of Security Council Resolution 2732
Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry for Bilateral Relations Ambassador Mohammed Hussein Bahr Aloolum and his accompanying delegation met at the United Nations headquarters in Baghdad on 12 September, 202, with Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Political Affairs and Electoral Assistance Mr. Claudio Cordone, and the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator Mr. Ghulam Mohammad, in addition to a number of senior United Nations staff in Iraq.
Undersecretary Bahr Aloolum expressed his appreciation for the efforts made by the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) since its establishment until now. He stressed that the relationship between Iraq and the United Nations will move to a new stage of cooperation and partnership that reflects the new priorities and developments in Iraq. The two parties discussed mechanisms for implementing the directives of the Iraqi government and Security Council Resolution 2732 regarding the ending the mandate of UNAMI mission in Iraq, in addition to the nature of future work with the United Nations and its organizations in Iraq, a set of executive measures were agreed upon in this regard.
On their part Mr. Cordone and the UN delegation commended the cooperation of the Iraqi government in the process of gradually ending the work of UNAMI. The meeting was attended from the Iraqi side by Prime Minister Advisor Dr. Farhad Abdul Aziz Alaa Al Din, the Head of the Department of International Organizations and Conferences, Dr. Fadhel Alrahim, Second Secretary Firas Abdul Jalil Zahir, and the Second Secretary, Saif Abbas Hussein.
