Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Heads Iraq’s Delegation to Arab League Council Meeting in Cairo

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein headed the Iraqi delegation to the 162nd session of the Arab League Council at the ministerial level, held at the Arab League’s headquarters in Cairo, which was held under the chairmanship of the Republic of Yemen on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in Cairo.

The meeting was designated in solidarity with the State of Palestine, and standing against the aggression on Gaza, as the participants agreed to remove all items from the agenda and focus exclusively on the Palestinian issue item in support of the Palestinian people and their cause.

The meeting witnessed the participation of several guests from outside the Arab group, including the Turkish Foreign Minister Mr. Hakan Fidan, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Mr. Josep Borrell, the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Commissioner General of UNRWA Mr. Philippe Lazzarini, and the Senior Humanitarian and Reconstruction Coordinator for Gaza Ms. Sigrid Kaag, as they delivered speeches in which they stressed the importance of cooperation with the Arab world to confront the challenges facing Gaza and the Palestinian issue.

Additionally, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein held several meetings on the sidelines of the session with his counterparts from the participating countries Foreign Ministers, in addition to bilateral meetings with the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, the Under Secretary General of the United Nations and the Commissioner General of UNRWA.
