Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Receives Musician Naseer Shamma to Discusses enhancing Cultural Diplomacy

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein received musician Naseer Shamma the UNESCO Artist of Peace, on Sunday, September 1, 2024.

The meeting discussed the importance of artistic culture and the close relationship between diplomacy and the arts, and the role of music in highlighting the cultures of different peoples. The Minister stressed that art is an important humanitarian message for peace and acts as a soft power for communication and exchange of cultures and ideas, which contributes greatly to creating intellectual and cultural diversity between countries.

Additionally, Minister Hussein listened to several ideas and proposals presented by musician Naseer Shamma, which included plans to activate cultural and literary events within diplomatic frameworks, and to activate the role of cultural diplomacy to reflect Iraq’s ancient civilizations and arts, and shed the light on the role of artistic elites and intellectual competencies on the international arena. On his part, Minister Fuad Hussein praised the ambitious future plans presented by musician Naseer Shamma, commending his artistic creativity that reflects a bright image of Iraq in Arab and international artistic forums, and stressing the importance of making efforts to invest Iraqi art across various forms to serve the national issues
