Permanent Representative to OIC Meets Cameroon’s Minister in Charge of Relations with the Commonwealth Countries
Iraq’s Permanent Representative to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Jeddah Mr. Mohammed Samir Al Naqshbandi met with the Minister Delegate to the Minister of External Relations in charge of Relations with the Commonwealth of the Republic of Cameroon Mr. Felix Mbayu, on the sidelines of the 50th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which was held in Yaoundé, Cameroon from 29 to 30 August 2024.
During the meeting Mr. Al Naqshbandi conveyed the greetings of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, who was unable to attend due to prior commitments. The Permanent Representative also commended the efforts exerted to make the meeting a success, stressing the interest of the Iraqi government and the Foreign Ministry in strengthening relations with African countries, and seeking to expand the frameworks of cooperation with various countries of the continent.
On his part minister Mbayu extended his thanks to Iraq for its keenness to participate in this session, pointing to the historical and civilizational role of Iraq and its influence and presence among the OIC countries. He also expressed his aspiration to establish distinguished relations between the two countries, and called for the opening of an Iraqi embassy in Yaoundé, similar to the ten other Arab embassies in Cameroon.
At the end of the meeting, the Permanent Representative presented a souvenir reflecting the history of Iraq, in appreciation of this occasion.
