Statement

The Foreign Ministry summoned Today, Sunday, the Chargé d’Affaires of the United Kingdom Embassy in Baghdad Ms. Ruth Coverdale, due to the presence of the Ambassador outside Iraq. The Ministry handed her a memorandum of protest following the statements of the UK Ambassador to the Republic of Iraq Mr. Stephen Hitchcock, which touched on the security and political affairs in a way that reflects a bleak picture of Iraq, its government and components. The Ministry considered this an interference in internal affairs and a departure from the diplomatic duties assigned to the Ambassador.

During the summons the Head of Europe Department at the Foreign Ministry Ambassador Bakr Ahmed Al Jaff, indicated that the partnership of opportunities is equivalent to the partnership of challenges, affirming the importance of the openness to the Iraqi experience from the perspective of common interests, and to avoid what contradicts the serious vision that the Iraqi government and constitutional institutions are working on, which has been devoted to various economic and development paths, preceded by great efforts to establish security, enhance stability and provide an unprecedented scope for the integration of the components in Iraq.
