Undersecretary for Bilateral Relations Receives Deputy Special Representative of UN Secretary General in Iraq for Political Affairs

Foreign Ministry Undersecretary for Bilateral Relations Ambassador Mohammed Hussein Bahr Al Uloom, received Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary General for Political Affairs and Electoral Assistance Mr. Claudio Cordone, accompanied by the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary General, Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator Mr. Ghulam Mohammad, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Baghdad, on Sunday, August 11, 2024.

The Undersecretary expressed his appreciation for the efforts made by the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) since its establishment until today. The two parties discussed the mechanisms for implementing the directives of the Iraqi government and Security Council Resolution No. 2732 regarding ending the mandate of UNAMI in Iraq, in addition to the nature of future cooperation with the United Nations and its agencies in the country, As well they agreed upon a number of related topics.

On his part Mr. Cordone commended the efforts made by the Foreign Ministry and the relevant national authorities to make the work of UNAMI a success. The meeting was attended from the Iraqi side by the Prime Minister adviser Dr. Farhad Abdul Aziz Alaa Al Din, the Head of International Organizations and Conferences Department Dr. Fadil Alrahim and the Minister’s Chief of Staff Dr. Salwan Rashid Sinjaree.
