Statement

The Government of the Republic of Iraq condemns in the strongest terms the assassination of the Head of Hamas’s Political Bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, in Iran’s capital Tehran, as a result of a perfidious strike that targeted his residence. The Republic of Iraq affirms that this aggressive attack is a blatant violation of international laws, and a threat to security and stability in the region. It also expresses its full solidarity with the Palestinian people and their leadership in these hard moments, calling on the international community to assume its responsibilities and take the necessary measures to stop the repeated attacks, and violating the sovereignty of states.

The Republic of Iraq reiterates its commitment to support the Palestinian cause and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including their right to self-determination and the establishment of their independent state with Al Quds Al Sharif as its capital.
