Iraqi Ambassador to Russia Meets Head of Russian Federal Agency for Commonwealth of Independent States Affairs, Compatriots Living Abroad, and International Humanitarian Cooperation

On Wednesday, July 17, 2024, Iraq’s Ambassador to Russia Mr. Haider Mansour Al Athari, visited the headquarters of the Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States Affairs, Compatriots living Abroad, and International Humanitarian Cooperation, of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, specialized in education. During the visit Ambassador Al Athari met with Head of the Agency, former journalist and Deputy at the State Duma, Mr. Yevgeny Primakov, in addition to the Head of the Education and Science Department at the Agency Mr. Zaichikov Vadim.

The two sides discussed the possibility of the Russian authorities allowing the return of study invitations for Iraqi students willing to study in Russian universities, which are currently suspended. Mr. Primakov promised to consider forming a tripartite committee from the agency, the Russian Ministry of Interior, as well as the Russian Ministry of Education and Science to reconsider the decision, the possibility of increasing the number of annual Russian scholarships granted to Iraq.

At the end of the meeting, the two parties agreed to coordinate efforts between the Embassy and the Federal Agency for cooperation in all fields, including education. The meeting was attended by Mr. Bilal Al Hakim, First Secretary in Bilateral Relations division at the Embassy.
