Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Receives Representative of UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Iraq
On Wednesday, June 12, 2024, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, received the representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Iraq, Mr. Jean Nicolas Beuze, to mark the end of his tenure in Iraq. During the meeting the two sides discussed the efforts of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and its ongoing coordination with the relevant Iraqi ministries to support the protection of refugees who have flocked to Iraq due to the situation in Syria, and to provide them with humanitarian assistance. The meeting also touched on the role of UNHCR in supporting the Iraqi government’s measures and actions in providing humanitarian aid to internally displaced persons, and the government’s persistent efforts to return them and integrate them into their original communities.
Minister Hussein confirmed that the Iraqi government pays great attention to the issue of internally displaced people, and is striving to return them to their areas and provide them with humane livelihood conditions.
On his part Mr. Beuze, extended his thanks and appreciation for the efforts of the Iraqi government and people in providing services and meeting the needs of refugees and forcibly displaced persons, stressing the need to commend Iraq’s outstanding role in this field, to the international community.
