Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Receives U.S. Ambassador to Iraq

On Saturday, May 5,2024. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein, received the Ambassador of the United States of America to Iraq Ms. Alina Romanowski, in Baghdad.

During the meeting, they discussed the Prime Minister’s Mr. Mohammad Shia, letter addressed to the Secretary General, concerning ending the mandate of the UNAMI mission in Iraq at the end of 2025, as the United States of America is considered the “penholder” on Iraq, which requires joint action in this field, in addition to reviewing the current regional situation in general.

The meeting also discussed the elections in the Kurdistan region, and the obstacles it faces, as well as the role of UNAMI in this area, if the elections are held.
