Iraq’s Chargé d’Affaires in Armenia Attends Armenian National Assembly Sitting Commemorating Yazidi Genocide
The Chargé d’Affaires a.i of the Embassy of the republic of Iraq in Armenia, Dr. Suhailan Munther Khalil attended a special sitting of the Armenian National Assembly, upon an official invitation, to vote on adopting the date of August 3, to the holidays Act and memorial days for the Republic of Armenia, as Article 11.1 provided the inclusion of August 3, as the date to commemorate the Yazidi genocide in 2014.
The Chargé d’Affairs ad interim, extended his thanks and appreciation for the efforts of the Government of the Republic of Armenia and its Parliament, and its interest in the genocide to which the Iraqi Yazidis were subjected by Da’esh terrorist groups in 2014, stressing the Iraqi government’s endeavor at the national and international levels to defend the rights of the Iraqi components, especially the Yazidi component in Sinjar and the Nineveh Plains, and on the rights of Yazidi survivors women and determining the fate of those abducted by terrorist groups, the government enacted Law No. 8 of 2021 (Yazidi women survivors) to address the damages and implications of all crimes committed against the Yazidis and other components, and the law considered them crimes of genocide and against Humanity.
