Iraq Participates in United Nations General Assembly’s Sixth Committee Resumed Session
The Republic of Iraq participated in the United Nations General Assembly’s Sixth Committee (legal) Resumed Session, to discuss the Draft Articles on Prevention and Punishment of Crimes against Humanity, which took place at UN Headquarters.
The Charge d’Affairs a.i of Iraq Permanent Mission to UN in New York, Dr. Abbas Kadhom Obaid gave Iraq’s statement in which he praised the efforts of the International Law Commission in preparing the draft article, stressing Iraq’s vision regarding the draft, which addresses serious crimes that threaten all of humanity, adding that the Iraqi people were one of the victims of those crimes committed by Daesh terrorist groups, including mass murder, robbery, forced marriage, and destroyed infrastructure and archaeological sites, according to their deviant belief, Mr. Obaid called on the concerned states to cooperate with Iraq to hold the perpetrators accountable by handing them over to Iraq, whose national judiciary is committed to holding accountable those who committed such crimes in order to reinforce the principle of the rule of law and respect for territorial jurisdiction.
In his statement, he called on the international community to take a courageous stance to stop the crimes committed by the Israeli occupation forces against the Palestinian people, hold the perpetrators accountable, and provide justice to the victims.
