Opening of Consulate General of the Republic of Iraq in Guangzhou

On March 21, 2024, the official ceremonial opening of the Consulate General of the Republic of Iraq in Guangzhou was held at the consulate building, The Iraqi Foreign Ministry was represented during the ceremony by Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq in Beijing Mr. Shorsh Khaled Saeed, and the Chinese side was represented by Director-General of the Department of Consular Affairs Ms. Wu Xi, the Deputy Governor of Guangdong Ms. Lin Tao, as well as the inauguration was attended by a number of Chinese diplomats from the Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Guangzhou, Consuls of Arab countries accredited in Guangzhou, and members of the Iraqi community, in addition to media members of several Chinese news agencies.

The ceremony included several speeches by the Iraqi ambassador, the head of the consular department in the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the deputy governor of Guangdong, which addressed the depth of historical relations between the two countries, the importance of opening the Iraqi consulate in Guangzhou, and the role of the Belt and Road Initiative and the Development Road in strengthening the relations between the two friendly countries, while celebrating the 66th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Baghdad and Beijing, in addition to the development of political and economic relations, which have witnessed increasing growth, as the rate of trade exchange reached approximately 50 billion dollars, with both Iraq and China topping the highest trade and economic cooperation ranks at the level of bilateral relations.

In addition to Ambassador Saeed, indicated that the Consulate General will be home for all Iraqi community in China, and he congratulated the Consul General of the Republic of Iraq in Guangzhou Mr. Mashkour Mohsen Al-Husouna, and the consulate staff, as well as the Consulate General held Iftar banquet for the guests on this occasion.
