Iraq’s Representative to United Nations Meets UN Under Secretary General for Counter Terrorism
The Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of Iraq’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York Dr. Abbas Kadhim Obaid met with United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Counter-Terrorism Mr. Vladimir Voronkov. During the meeting, they discussed aspects of cooperation between Iraq and the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism UNOCT in various relevant fields, the Chargé d’Affaires praised the roles played by UNOCT, through cooperation and partnership with Iraqi government institutions in the areas of supporting national capabilities, plans and programs, in the context of combating terrorism and its consequences, noting that Iraq has become an international model, through its programs and plans related to combating terrorism, looking ahead to the support of the United Nations and its institutions for these programs which are part of collective international efforts to confront terrorism, its challenges and reflections, emphasizing the importance of concerted international efforts, and calling on countries to repatriate their nationals, women and children from Al Hawl Camp. On his part, Mr. Voronkov, praised the achieved progress and the positive changes that Iraq has witnessed due to accumulated experience in combating terrorism, expressing the readiness of the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism to promote the work of the Office in Baghdad, and to continue providing support and technical assistance in several areas
