Head of Legal Department Ambassador Haider Al-Barrak Delivers Iraq’s Oral Statement at International Court of Justice

The Republic of Iraq participated with a delegation from the Foreign Ministry, headed by Ambassador Haider Shiaa Al-Barrak, head of the Legal Department, in the argument regarding the advisory opinion on the practices of the “Israeli entity” that affect the human rights of the Palestinian people in the occupied Palestinian territory, which was submitted by the United Nations General Assembly to the International Court of Justice. Ambassador Haider Shiaa Al-Barrak, delivered the oral statement of the Republic of Iraq at the court in the public hearing on Thursday, February 22,2024.

In its statement at the International Court of Justice, Iraq stressed the importance of the court’s advisory opinion in providing the necessary legal elements to strengthen efforts aimed at restoring peace and stability in Palestine and the Middle East region, and that the occupation authorities are obligated to comply respecting the right of the Palestinian people to self determination, as well as stopping the “Israeli entity” violations immediately by stopping all actions and measures that prevent or obstruct the Palestinian people’s to obtain their right to declare their independent state with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital, including immediately ending the occupation in all its manifestations, associated procedures and practices aimed at prolonging the occupation, and continuing to deny the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people.
