Iraq’s Chargé d’Affaires in Damascus Meets Syrian Minister of Water Resources

The Chargé d’affaires ad interim Mr. Yassin Sharif Al-Hajimi, met with Engineer Hussein Makhlouf, Minister of Water Resources of the Syrian Arab Republic. During the meeting, Mr. Al-Hajimi conveyed an invitation letter from the Minister of Water Resources of the Republic of Iraq to his Syrian counterpart to attend the 4th Baghdad International Water Conference, which is scheduled to be held in Baghdad in the month of April, Minister Makhlouf, expressed his pleasure to participate in the conference. As part of the meeting the Chargé d’Affaires raised the issue of the decrease in water releases coming to Iraq in the Euphrates river and its impact on agriculture in a number of Iraqi governorates, and the necessity of continuing technical efforts between the Ministries of Water Resources in the two brotherly countries, with the aim of securing water rations according to the agreements between the upstream and downstream countries, Minister Makhlouf, stressed his ministry’s keenness on cooperation in the field of water and the continuation of technical and engineering collaboration to ensure the success of the exerted efforts to provide adequate water releases.
