Undersecretary for Multilateral and Legal Affairs Heads Iraq’s Delegation to Third South Summit of the Group of 77 and China
Undersecretary for Multilateral and Legal Affairs Mr. Omer Al-Barzanji, headed Iraq’s delegation to the third south summit of the G77 and China, held in the Ugandan’s capital, Kampala, from January 21st to 22nd, 2024. and was attended by heads of states, government and member state’s representatives. The Iraqi delegation included the participation of the acting head of International Organizations and Conferences Department Dr. Fadel Alrahim.
Mr. Al-Barzanji delivered Iraq’s speech before the session affirming Iraq’s full adherence to the spirit, principles and goals of the Group of 77 and China, as well as its commitment to strengthening solidarity among its members, pointing out the importance of the group’s countries to unite their endeavors to achieve the goals of the 2030 Sustainable Development Plan through joint cooperation and exchange of best practices and experiences in the areas of addressing the effects of climate change, damage to biodiversity, desertification, water scarcity, the worsening of sand and dust storms, fluctuations in energy prices, the widening of digital gap and illicit financial flows.
The Undersecretary reiterated Iraq’s adherence to the goals of the group as one of the founding members, as well as it remains in a useful negotiating tool to represent the interests of developing countries in multilateral economic diplomacy, and in achieving sustainable development with its three economic, social and environmental pillars, within the framework of the United Nations.
