Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Meets Austrian Foreign Minister

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein, met with Austrian Federal Minister for European and International Affairs Mr. Alexander Schallenberg, at the Austrian Foreign Ministry’s headquarters in Vienna, on Sunday, January 21, 2024.

During the meeting, they discussed the historical relations binding the two friendly countries, in addition to various issues of common interest, including the reopening of the Austrian embassy in Baghdad after its closure for three decades, and designating a resident ambassador to Baghdad, which reflects the desire of the two countries to strengthen bilateral relations.

Minister Hussein, reviewed the priorities of the economic reform Iraq’s government intends to implement during the next phase, indicating the most important security challenges facing Iraq and the region.

On his part, Minister Schallenberg expressed Austria’s commitment to provide support to the Iraqi government in order to confront the security and economic challenges, affirming his country will continue its efforts to strengthen mutual relations, to serve the common interests of the two friendly peoples.
