Undersecretary for Multilateral and Legal Affairs Gives Iraq’s Speech at the 19th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement
The head of the Republic of Iraq’s delegation, Undersecretary for Multilateral and Legal Affairs Mr. Omer Al-Barzanji, gave Iraq’s speech at the 19th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit, in Uganda’s capital, Kampala. On January 20, 2024, in the presence of a large number of heads of state, government and foreign ministers of Non-Aligned Movement countries.
The Undersecretary affirmed in his speech, Iraq’s commitment to the Non-Aligned Movement goals and its principles, enhancing solidarity among its member states and strengthening its role in facing the current international crisis, Indicating the necessity of cooperation among members of NAM to achieve full respect for the goals and principles of the United Nations Charter and international law, adding that this NAM summit called for Deepening Cooperation for Shared Global Affluence, stressing the need for solidarity among the members of the movement to bridge the economic and technical gap between the countries of the North and the countries of the South to keep pace with the rapid technical progress that the world is witnessing, and the need of developing countries to reduce the extent of the knowledge disparity between countries, explaining that Cooperation among the countries of the South is not a substitute for cooperation between the North and the South, but rather complete it.
The Undersecretary stressed in his speech on Iraq’s unlimited support for the Palestinian people in confronting the crimes and genocide committed by the Israeli occupation, affirming that these crimes represent a dangerous turning point that will have severe consequences on regional and international levels, praising the Republic of South Africa’s approach to the International Court of Justice and its demand to issue a ruling over the genocides the Palestinian people are being exposed to in the Gaza Strip as genocide.
