Foreign Ministry Undersecretary for Political Planning Affairs Meets Swiss Foreign Minister Assistant for Middle East Affairs at Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs

Foreign Ministry Undersecretary for Political Planning Dr. Hisham Al-Alawi, met with Ambassador Maya Tissafi Swiss Foreign Minister Assistant and Head of the Middle East and North Africa Division at the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, in the presence of Vincent Pasquier Deputy Head of the Middle East Division, on January 8, 2024.

Foreign Ministry Undersecretary extended his thanks to the Swiss Authorities for their support in repatriating Iraqi smuggled antiquities, and the decision to reopen their embassy in Baghdad, stressing the importance of holding the next meeting for political consultations in Baghdad in the near future,
Pointing out to the importance of Swiss companies investing in Iraq in priority sectors for both countries, and accelerating the signing of a memorandum of understanding for visa exemption for holders of diplomatic passports, as well providing facilities regarding obtaining entry visas for citizens.

Dr. Al-Alawi stressed the necessity of activating the work of the Iraqi-Swiss joint committee, and suggested considering the possibility of establishing parliamentary friendship committees between the two countries.

Both sides exchanged views on the attacks on the Gaza Strip in Palestine and the clear violations of human rights.
