Head of the Asia and Australia Department meets the ambassadors of Asian and Australian countries
The Head of the Asia and Australia Department, Ambassador Dr. Hisham Al-Alawi, held a meeting at the Ministry’s HQ, on 11/16/2022, with ambassadors and chargé d’affaires of Asian and Australian countries in Baghdad, including (China, Japan, South Korea, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Australia).
Ambassador Al-Alawi briefed the ambassadors of Asian countries and Australia on the most important paragraphs of the government program and its priorities related to providing public services and fighting corruption, and stressed that Iraq has what qualifies it to raise the level of services, the most important of which is that the majority of society are young, and Iraq has a long history, natural resources, and a distinguished geographical location, in addition to its relations with different countries of the world based on respect and mutual interests.
The ambassador affirmed that Iraq is looking forward, under the new government, to resuming holding rounds of political consultations with Asian countries and Australia, the work of joint committees, and achieving mutual visits at the highest levels, as the Corona pandemic and the delay in forming the Iraqi government were a reason for postponing the achievement of these goals, calling for a review of the issue of warnings. Traveling to Iraq, in line with the stable security situation in the country.
The ambassador stressed that Iraq is focusing at the current stage on economic diplomacy, and that Asian countries and Australia are fully concerned and are candidates to work with Iraq in this aspect, especially in the energy and other sectors such as agriculture, tourism and industry.
For their part, the ambassadors of Asian countries and Australia congratulated Ambassador Al-Alawi on assuming the duties of chairing the department, and expressed optimism about the continuation of work to follow up on bilateral issues, the most important of which is the signing of memorandums of understanding and bilateral agreements and the achievement of mutual visits, as well as the importance of focusing on Iraq’s long-term relations with Asian countries and Australia, especially since Iraq He holds the same values that the countries of the region hold related to human rights and democracy.
