Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs meets the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States and discusses the importance of promoting joint Arab action
Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein met with Dr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, today, Saturday, October 29, 2022, on the sidelines of his participation in the preparatory meeting of foreign ministers for the Council of the League of Arab States at the summit level in its 31st session, which is taking place his work in Algeria.
The two sides discussed the importance of strengthening joint Arab action, and unifying positions regarding the challenges facing the Arab countries. The Minister stressed that Iraq faces multiple challenges, calling for concerted Arab efforts to overcome them.
They also discussed the diplomatic means pursued by Iraq within the tripartite coordination mechanism between Baghdad, Amman and Cairo, the promotion of joint economies, and the exchange of positions that support balance in the region. The two sides discussed a number of important files, most notably Iraq’s relationship with neighboring countries, as well as with Turkey and Iran, and the subject of ending the Syrian crisis by adopting dialogue, a political solution that leads to stabilization, and Syria’s return to occupy its seat in the League of Arab States.For his part, the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States congratulated the Minister on the occasion of the formation of the new government, and the renewal of confidence in him as Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq, praising the role played by Iraq in promoting joint Arab action, and that the League supports Iraq with all its aspirations.
