Head of the Department of Human Rights Meets Chinese Ambassador to Iraq
On Sunday, June 12, 2022, Dr Hisham Al-Alawi, Head of the Department of Human Rights, met Mr Cui Wei, the Chinese Ambassador to Iraq, , at the Ministry’s headquarters.
At the beginning of the meeting, Ambassador Al-Alawi affirmed the keenness of the Republic of Iraq to expand the bilateral cooperation between the two countries and the need for joint coordination between them, particularly within the framework of the protection of human rights because of their high importance of our times, as Iraq seeks to complete important files, including the file of professional excavation in mass graves to determine the fate of tens of thousands of missing persons, encouraging the return of the displaced to their cities and villages, and returning those in the Al-Hol camp in Syria to their countries, within a comprehensive programme aimed at rehabilitating children and prosecuting adults accused of crimes against humanity, especially those belonging to ISIS whatever their nationalities, as well as preparing a strategy for the advancement and empowerment of women in Iraq, and to enhance children’s rights and protection, stating that there is a draft law awaiting passage in the Iraqi parliament which includes important articles to protect children’s rights, in addition to passing a draft law on preventing domestic violence.
Ambassador Al-Alawi also affirmed that Iraq is committed to enhancing a culture of respect for human rights in accordance with the Iraqi constitution and laws in force, and the international conventions and treaties concerned with the protection of human rights to which Iraq had acceded.
On his part, the Chinese ambassador affirmed his country’s support to the Republic of Iraq, expressing his country’s gratitude for Iraq’s support for the Chinese joint statement at the 50th session of the Human Rights Council, confirming that China always seeks to enhance its bilateral relations with countries, especially with Iraq.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the two sides expressed their commitment to continuing communication and cooperation to realise the interests of the two friendly countries.
