Chargé d’Affaires of the Republic of Iraq in Brussels Participates in Meeting of the Committee on Relations with Iraq in the European Parliament Allocated to Discuss the Results of the ongoing Negotiations to Form the New Iraqi Government
Chargé d’Affaires of the Republic of Iraq in Brussels, Plenipotentiary Minister, Dr Fadhel al-Rahim, has participated in a meeting of the Committee on Relations with Iraq in the European Parliament, part of the meeting was devoted to discuss the latest developments in the political process in Iraq and the negotiations conducted by those political forces to form the new Iraqi government, while the other part of the meeting was devoted to discuss the repercussions of the ongoing war in Ukraine on the political and economic conditions in Iraq and the Middle East.
During his intervention in the meeting, Dr al-Rahim presented a review of the positions and viewpoints of the active Iraqi political forces in the Iraqi parliament and the outcome of the ongoing negotiations between these forces to form the new Iraqi government, stating that all political forces are still in continuous activities and they launch initiatives one after the other to end the political stalemate in the hope of reaching an agreement leading to the formation of a new government that will take it upon itself to raise the level of government performance and realise the aspirations of the Iraqi people, explaining that the incumbent Iraqi government continues to work in accordance with the constitutional contexts and the government, in the context of confronting the food crisis in global markets, has recently sent a draft law on the protection of food security in Iraq to the Parliament for the purpose of ratification.
Speaking on the repercussions of the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, Dr al-Rahim expressed his concern about the negative effects of that crisis on the countries of the world and the Middle East, stressing that Iraq’s position has been clear since the beginning of the crisis which is summed up in the need to resolve disputes by peaceful means and avoid the language of war and sanctions, confirming that the Minister of Foreign Ministry Dr Fuad Hussein visited Moscow recently within the Contact Group formed by the Arab League to discuss with the conflicting parties ceasing the military operations, giving priority to the language of dialogue and finding a political resolution to the crisis.
On her part, the Chair of the Committee on Relations with Iraq in the European Parliament, Swedish MP Sarah Skaetdal, confirmed that the European Union works to extend all possible to support the political process in Iraq, and everyone hopes to see a breakthrough in the political negotiations conducted by the political forces to form a new Iraqi government capable of confronting the various challenges facing Iraq, and she expressed her condemnation of the Russian military operations in Ukraine, referring to the severe negative impacts of those operations on the security of Europe and the world.
