Head of the Department of International Organisations and Conferences Meets Director of the United Nations Mine Action Programme in Iraq (UNMAS)

On 6/4/2022, Head of the Department of International Organisations and Conferences, Dr Abbas Kadhum Obaid, met the Director of the UNMAS Programme in Iraq, Mr Pehr Lodhammar, at the Ministry’s headquarters.

 During the meeting, they discussed the progress achieved in the programmes of de-mining  and war remnants in Iraq, the obstacles and difficulties faced by the Program to identify and overcome them, and the continuation of cooperation and coordination between the Programme of Iraq Mine Action and global programmes.

The Head of the Department of International Organisations and Conferences commended the efforts exerted by the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS), expressing the ministry’s readiness to provide all facilities to facilitate its tasks to ensure the success of the United Nations Programme, confirming the importance of coordination with Iraqi national institutions and donor countries to realise the goal of Iraq free of mines and war remnants.

On his part, the Director of the United Nations Mine Action Programme commended the level of cooperation and coordination with the Iraqi national institutions, looking forward to achieving this common goal.
