Head of the Department of Human Rights meets the Director General of the Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) Department at the General Secretariat for the Council of Ministers

     Head of the Department of Human Rights Ambassador Dr. Hisham Al Alawi has met the Director General of the NGOs Department at theGeneral Secretariat for the Council of Ministers Mr. Ashraf Abdulkareem Al Dahan at the head quarter of the NGOs Department at the General Secretariat for the Council of Ministers.

     During the meeting, Ambassador Al Alawi presented a briefing of the Human Rights Dept. work and the follow up of the work of the local and foreign NGOs in Iraq and the process of their registration at the department of NGOs.

     On his part, Mr. Al Dahan confirmed the readiness of the NGOs Dept. to work and cooperate with the Dept. of Human Rights, and agreed with what the Ambassador had put forward in terms of issues, impediments and mechanics.

    They also discussed the legal frameworks and work mechanisms of some NGOs suspended from membership, and empowering Iraqi NGOs to obtain consultative status at the Social and Economic Council of the UN General Assembly.

    In conclusion, the two sides agreed to hold a deliberative meeting between the relevant staffs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Dept. of NGOs next month.
