On 23/03/2022, the President of the Republic of Malta, Mr George Villa, received Mrs Safia Talib Al-Suhail, Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to Italy, the non-resident Ambassador to the Republics of Malta and San Marino, at the Governmental Palace of San Anton in the Maltese capital Valletta, on the occasion of the conclusion of her tasks as the non-resident Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to the Republic of Malta.
Her Excellency extended her warm thanks and gratitude to His Excellency the President for the continued support provided by the Maltese side to develop relations and expand their horizons, and for the nomination by Malta of the resident Ambassador to the sisterly State of Kuwait to be the non-resident Ambassador of the Republic of Malta to the Republic of Iraq.
Her Excellency also reviewed the joint cooperation which had been realised to hold bilateral meetings in Baghdad between the two sides at the level of undersecretaries of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for political consultations, and the signing of a memorandum of understanding in this regard and other memoranda under study, which is hoped would open wider horizons, including what had been agreed upon in coordination and bilateral and multilateral diplomatic cooperation at the European and international levels, supporting economic and cultural diplomacy, and the cooperating between the Maltese and Iraqi institutions in the field of higher education, antiquities conservation, and the tourist and service sector.
On his part, the President of the Republic confirmed during the meeting the tangible and notable development witnessed by the relations between the two friendly countries, and the role of Her Excellency in consolidating and developing these relations during her term, wishing her success in her upcoming missions in Baghdad.
