Head of the Department of International Organisations and Conferences meets the Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations, Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA)

 Head of the Department of International Organisations, Dr Abbas Kadhem Obaid, has met the Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations, Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), Dr Rola Dashti, on the sidelines of the Arab Forum for Sustainable Development (AFSD), which has been held in Beirut.

 During the meeting, they reviewed Iraq’s relations with ESCWA on various sectors, as the head of the Department of International Organisations valued the activities and roles that ESCWA plays for Iraqi cadres and ministries in the field of capacity building, information exchange and providing technical and advisory support to achieve the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. The two sides also discussed the main challenges hindering the realization of these goals, ways to overcome them, and studying the needs of countries.

On her part, the Executive Secretary of ESCWA expressed the Committee’s readiness to provide all forms of support to Iraqi institutions and in various sectors to implement the international commitments and standards towards achieving economic and social development goals. The two sides confirmed the importance of exchanging visits and participating in all activities and forums to achieve common goals. Ms Sunkul Ismail, Counsellor at the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Beirut has attended the meeting.
