Iraq Calls upon Belgium to Open Resident Embassy in Baghdad
On 15/3/2022, Acting Head of the Department of European Affairs, Plenipotentiary Minister, Tariq Adel Al-Shaher, met Mr Filip Vanden Bulcke, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to the Republic of Iraq, residing in Amman.
During the meeting, they discussed ways to enhance the bilateral relations, the importance of strengthening them, and future prospects for cooperation. They affirmed the importance of implementing the joint committees and expediting the holding of a new round of the political consultations between the two countries.
The head of the Department of European Affairs expressed the Foreign Ministry’s aspiration to establish a diplomatic representation and a resident Embassy for Belgium in Baghdad, and the need to Belgium’s support in providing study fellowships to Iraqi students in various areas of study, as well as the possibility of holding training courses for Iraqi diplomats at the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Head of the Department of European Affairs reiterated the importance of providing political and technical support by the Kingdom of Belgium to lift the ban imposed by the European Union on Iraqi Airways.
