The Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq in Brussels receives a number of members of the Committee on Relations with Iraq in the European Parliament

The Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq in Brussels, Ahmed Tahseen Berwari, received at the embassy headquarters a number of members of the Committee on Relations with Iraq in the European Parliament. They are the Swedish representative of the European Renewal Group, Ms. Abeer Al-Sahlani and the Spanish representative, Mr. Dominique Ruiz Defesa, of the Progressive Alliance of European Socialists and Democrats, and the French MP, Mr. François-Xavier Bellamy, representing the European People’s Party.

During the meeting, they discussed enhancing prospects for cooperation between the Iraq Mission to the European Union and the Iraq Committee in the European Parliament, in a way that serves the common interests of Iraq and the European Union.

Where the two sides exchanged views on the implementation of the provisions of the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement concluded between Iraq and the European Union and the latest developments on the regional and international arenas, especially the developments of the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, the European Union’s policy towards the migration file, and Iraq’s relations with its regional environment.

 On the level of the political situation in Iraq, Ambassador Berwari clarified that the completion of the formation of the new Iraqi government is a step in the right direction, noting that the new government’s foreign policy is based on building balanced relations with regional and international actors, in addition to the government’s primary mission of advancing the service reality and the standard of living of citizens through Carrying out radical economic reforms and combating corruption.

For their part, the European parliamentarians stressed the important role played by Iraq in the Middle East region and their keenness to follow up on the implementation of mutual commitments between the two sides in a way that serves common interests.
