The Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs calls for the reopening of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Norway in Iraq

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein called on the Government of the Kingdom of Norway to reopen the Kingdom’s embassy in Iraq, due to its positive impact on strengthening and developing bilateral relations.

This came during his meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Norway, Mrs. Anken Huitveldt, on the sidelines of the 18th Manama Dialogue, which is taking place in the Bahraini capital, Manama.

The meeting discussed the distinguished bilateral relations between the two countries, ways to enhance them, and the importance of bridging cooperation by creating opportunities that would achieve the aspirations of the two friendly peoples, stressing the need to reactivate the Iraqi-Norwegian joint committee between the two countries, and activate memorandums of understanding and bilateral cooperation files. The two sides discussed the repercussions of the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, and its repercussions on the Middle East region, which cast a shadow on the global economy, especially the shortage of food and energy supplies. Minister Fuad Hussein stressed the need to find understandings among all countries to solve the problems facing them, as the indicators of political and security stability and economic issue is still far away, which necessitates the international community to take serious and effective steps to find radical and realistic solutions to resolve the existing differences, by adopting the language of dialogue, resorting to the negotiating table and upholding common interests.

The latest developments in regional issues of international concern were also discussed, including; Bringing points of view between regional parties such as Saudi Arabia and Iran, as well as international parties such as America and Iran, which the Iraqi government considers a major part of the solution to achieving security and stability in Iraq and the region in general.

For her part, the Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs congratulated the Minister on the occasion of the formation of the new government, and the renewal of confidence in him as Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq, affirming her country’s desire to develop bilateral relations and consolidate joint cooperation in a way that achieves prosperity and prosperity for both friendly countries.
