Undersecretary of the ministry of foreign affairs Ms Safiya Al-Suhail meets Russian ambassador and emphasizes the need to sign agreements and memorandums of understanding between Baghdad and Moscow

On August 28, 2022, the Undersecretary of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Safia Talib Al-Suhail, met the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Iraq, Mr  Elbrus Kutrashev. After exchanging words of welcome, the Russian Ambassador congratulated the Undersecretary on her assumption of the new position.

At the beginning of the meeting, the historic relations of friendship between Iraq and the Russian Federation were reviewed. The Undersecretary referred to Iraq’s keenness to enhance the relations between the two countries, open further horizons and channels of cooperation in the political, economic and scientific aspects, and sign agreements and memorandums of understanding that had reached their final stages between the two sides.

On his part, the Russian ambassador affirmed his country’s keenness to enhance friendship and cooperation relations with Iraq, and referred to the desire of the Russian side to develop the relations between Russia and Iraq in all fields, and enhance cooperation within the international organisations.

Mr  Albrus touched on the developments of the war between Russia and Ukraine and the security risks resulting from targeting the Zaporozhye nuclear plant.

On her part, the Undersecretary affirmed that Iraq has suffered terribly from wars and conflicts and wishes nothing but stability, security and peace for all friends and peoples, and it confirms on the importance of understandings and political solutions.
