Iraq gains the Presidency of the (11th session) of the Conference of the State Parties to the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organised Crime and the protocols thereto

Pursuant to the directions of the Ministry’s leadership to our diplomatic missions abroad to support Iraq’s gaining of important positions at international forums, and after the diplomatic efforts made by the embassy of the republic of Iraq in Vienne, these efforts culminated in obtaining the presidency of the 11th session of the conference of the state parties to the United Nations convention against transnational organised crime and the protocols thereto for the period (2022-2024).

This is the first time that Iraq has gained a senior position related to the Convention since its accession to it on March 17th 2008, and this position is regarded as one of the important positions in Vienna due to the files related to the Convention and its protocols such as human trafficking, migrant smuggling, firearms, international cooperation and technical assistance. and other vital files, and also due to the number of state parties to the convention, amounting to 190 countries.

It is noteworthy that Iraq will take over the presidency of the 11th conference (COP11) in the opening session of the conference on October 17th 2022 from the current presidency (Egypt / African Group).
